Join Scuba Travel's ambassador Anders Salesjö on an unforgettable liveaboard in the Maldives in April 2028. This is a trip for those who want to experience the Maldives in depth. Both through spectacular diving and through increased understanding of the marine life you encounter below the surface.

Other is a trained marine biologist and shares his knowledge during the journey through shorter, inspiring collections about of the Maldives marine wildlife. It gives the trip an extra dimension, where each dive is complemented by insight into the ecosystems, species and interactions below the surface. The focus is always on the experience in the water. The collections are light, adapted to what we actually see and intended as a complement to the diving, not as heavy theory sessions.

Best of Maldives – a route with maximum variety

During six eventful diving days we do 2-3 dives per day at some of the very best dive sites in the Maldives. Our route is called “Best of Maldives”, which is the most well-known route in the central Maldives, and at the same time the one that offers the most varied and complete diving.

The trip takes us through the atolls of North Male, South Male, Felidhoo and Ari, areas that together offer an impressive spectrum of diving environments. Best of Maldives is not a completely fixed route, but the dive sites are constantly adjusted according to the season, weather and observations from other boats and local operators. In this way, the best possible diving is ensured every day.

We alternate vibrant coral reefs with exciting channel dives between the atolls, where the currents attract larger marine life. At least one dive is usually on a beautiful wreck, now covered in coral and surrounded by schools of fish. We also visit cleaning stations, where large mantas gather to get rid of parasites. Often one of the great highlights of the trip.

Along for the ride

During your trip, our ambassador Anders Salesjö will hold some shorter sessions where we will learn more about the underwater world and the animals we see. There will be no long, heavy theory sessions, because the idea of the trip is that we will spend most of the time in the water. Depending on what we will experience, the content of these sessions will vary. Scattered throughout the trip, we will have sessions that touch on the following subject areas:

• Sharks in the Maldives
• Manta rays and other rays
• Common reef fish in the Maldives
• Sea turtles

Big meetings below the surface

April is an excellent season in the Maldives, with high activity in the water and very good chances of encounters with larger animals. During the trip we have a relatively good chance of seeing several species of sharks, including grey reef shark, whitetip reef shark, blacktip reef shark and nurse shark. If we are really lucky, we may also experience a razor-finned lemon shark, spinner shark or even a hammerhead shark.

Other species we have a chance to encounter include manta rays, stingrays, spotted eagle rays, wrasses, moray eels and large groupers. With a bit of luck we will also see sea turtles and dolphins. During the trip we will also actively search for whale sharks, and if the opportunity arises there is the opportunity to snorkel or even dive with the world's largest fish.

Shark Tank

Towards the end of the week we return to Male and dive at the now well-known Shark Tank site, just off the main island. This is a relatively new dive site where organized diving only started in 2021–2022. Here, fish cleaning from local fishermen attracts several species of shark, giving us good chances for intense and memorable shark encounters.
