Join Patrik Jonson on a diving trip to Mexico and the amazing Sea of Cortez. The place where the desert meets the sea and which J. Cousteau spoke of as "the world's aquarium". Baja California is an inland sea known for large animals and a very rich marine life. Here in the Pacific Ocean there is the opportunity to see different species of sharks. Shoals of hammerhead sharks, different species of whales and whale sharks are relatively common here.
These amazing waters are known for their clear water and many unusual species of fish, such as the Sailfin Goby and the Giant Jawfish. This strange jawfish is often called the “Big Mouth Bastard”. Here live octopuses, unique nudibranchs and often large schools of fish. Together with sea lions and a variety of invertebrates you have a fantastic biodiversity and the opportunity to experience species that are rarely seen. The Totoaban – an endangered fish species in the drumfish genus is found here and maybe with a lot of luck it will appear.
Lunch on the beach after diving
After each day of diving you will be served lunch directly on the beach. Enjoy the views of this beautiful inland sea. The World Aquarium was often mentioned by Jacques Coesteau as one of the best diving sites in the world.
The Sea of Cortez is famous for whales that come to give birth to their calves where they can bask in the sun-warmed sea. Occasionally, schools of hammerhead sharks pass by and whale sharks are often seen in the plankton-filled warm waters. An afternoon of snorkeling with these giants is included in the trip as it is usually a good time to see them.
In the evenings you enjoy your accommodation at the lovely Villa Carey, which is a small hotel with good facilities.andard. Since there are only 14 rooms, it will feel exclusive and private. The evenings on the roof with a view of La Paz and a refreshing drink will bring memories and dreams of traveling more.

Along for the ride
On this trip you will travel with Patrik Jonson, who has spent most of his life exploring and documenting the underwater world. His interest in underwater photography grew just as quickly. He took his first UV photos in 1990, bought his own camera in 1992 and has since photographed and filmed everything from small macro creatures to grandiose events below the surface. Patrik also has extensive experience in running diving businesses, including Gotland Dykmaterial for three seasons and then Visby Dykcenter until 2000. In the late 90s, he also started the Swedish Treasure Hunt Championship.
Adventure and underwater photography
The Sea of Cortez off the California peninsula is a rich inland sea in Mexico and teeming with marine life. Everything from large mammals like whales, including giants like blue and gray whales, to killer whales and several species of dolphins. You'll also find large colonies of sea lions here, which often come close to you even when you're diving.
Sharks of various kinds, including schools of hammerheads, are occasionally seen, as well as whale sharks, which are often seen in large numbers during parts of the year. Various species of reef sharks and even larger species such as blue sharks, bull sharks, silky sharks and mako sharks are also occasionally seen.
If you travel across the beautiful desert landscape to the Pacific coast, you can experience Bahia Magdalena or Magdalena Bay where you have the opportunity to see sailfish and swordfish. At La Ventana (the window), it is known to see large groups of cow nose rays and eagle rays at certain times of the year. A minimum number of participants is usually required to be able to do the tours, which are a fantastic full-day adventure that is booked directly on site.

Itinerary day by day
Day 1
You leave Scandinavia and fly to La Paz in Mexico.
Day 2
You arrive in Mexico and have a transfer to your accommodation
Day 2 – 9
7 nights accommodation with breakfast and a total of 5 diving days with 2 dives / day. Lunch, picnic style on the beach is included during the diving days. One day you will go out to hopefully snorkel with whale sharks which are normally common this time of year.
Day 9
You check out of your accommodation and have a transfer to the airport to return to Scandinavia.

Travelandar back in Scandinavia
