Follow underwater photographer Patrik Jonson to Tulamben. A place where the sea feels close even before you take your first step in the water. Here you will be greeted by calm conditions, warm water all year round and an underwater world that offers both tranquility and surprises.

The famous USS Liberty wreck lies just a few meters from the shore. As you descend along the hull, you are greeted by corals that have taken over the ship and a multitude of life moving in the soft light. In the morning, large schools of bumphead parrotfish pass by, and during night dives the whole scene changes as moray eels, crabs and octopuses slowly emerge from their hiding places.

The Tulamben coast offers even more. Drop Off falls straight down into the depths like a dramatic wall, while Coral Garden is full of small details – seahorses, nudibranchs and shrimp hiding in the anemones. All with Mt Agung as a still silhouette in the background.

A journey to one of the world's most species-rich oceans

Indonesia is known for its enormous biodiversity. With over 17,000 islands along the equator, the richness of species beneath the surface is something all its own – and Bali is no exception. Here is a vibrant, colorful underwater world. Which always has something new to offer, no matter how many times you dive here.

Along for the ride

On this trip you have the pleasure of traveling with Patrik Jonson, who has dedicated most of his life to exploring and documenting the underwater world. His interest in underwater photography grew just as quickly. He took his first UV photos in 1990, bought his own camera in 1992 and has since photographed and filmed everything from small macro creatures to grandiose events below the surface. Patrik also has extensive experience in running diving businesses, including Gotland Dykmaterial for three seasons and then Visby Dykcenter until 2000. In the late 90s, he also started the Swedish Treasure Hunt Championship.

Dive sites around Tulamben

Bali is one of Indonesia's most diverse diving islands and offers good accommodation, well-maintained dive centres and a culture that makes your stay just as memorable above the surface as below. Despite the island's popularity, there are plenty of places to get away from mass tourism, and the Tulamben coast is one of them.

Tulamben & Seraya – perfect for divers and photographers

The Tulamben and Seraya area offers a large number of dive sites within 5-30 minutes of Bali Dive Resort. There are both shore dives and short trips along the coast, and many sites are equally suitable for snorkeling as for diving.</p>

Just outside the resort, you'll find top-notch macro diving, a true paradise for underwater photographers. Here you'll find nudibranchs, shrimp, crabs, blennies and other small subjects that make it easy to spend entire dives with your camera in hand.

Tulamben is also home to the famous USS Liberty wreck, one of the most accessible wreck dives in the world. The wreck is teeming with life and the light that falls between the hulls creates perfect conditions for photos and videos. In addition to the wreck, there is also beautiful wall diving at Drop Off and colorful coral gardens suitable for both wide-angle and macro.

The sloping dive site of Batu Kelibit offers dense coral gardens and rich marine life, a place where every meter of reef hides new motifs.

Amed – stream diving and larger meetings

Just 20 minutes away is Amed, an area known for its drift dives and impressive coral reefs. Here you have a greater chance of encountering pelagic life and a completely different dynamic than the more sheltered waters of Tulamben. For photographers, drift diving can provide dramatic wide-angle shots and encounters with faster species.

Nusa Penida – an encounter you won't soon forget

Off the coast, Nusa Penida spreads out, and here lies Manta Point – one of the region’s most well-known spots for diving with manta rays. When the majestic animals glide in to groom themselves, it’s an experience that leaves a strong impression on everyone, regardless of experience.

Bali Dive Resort and Spa

Bali Dive Resort offers good and comfortable accommodation and is located directly on the sea. The majestic Mount Agung is located a little south of the resort and offers a beautiful setting. The resort is only 5 minutes drive from Tulamben and is a perfect place for everyone. Whether you are a free diver, diver, non-diver or traveling with the family. The resort has its own dive center and a house reef that offers really good macro diving. The dive sites in Tulamben and Amed are all within a 5-30 minute drive from the hotel. Here at the resort there is a pool and large open areas and full board is included during your trip.
