Vis and Kornati, Croatia
For those who like a good mix of wrecks, cave openings and marine life, the Vis and Kornati tour in Croatia is perfect!
Around the island of Vis there is a plethora of shipwrecks such as Fortunal, Brioni and Tetti. The wrecks lie between 20 – 70 meters and require you to have the right training and be able to dive to these depths. Maybe this is the perfect place for you to do your deep training or technical diving training? An advanced diver with a certification down to 40 meters will be able to see 90% of all wrecks.
Here you experience exciting "cavern diving" where you get to experience large and small cave openings below the surface. Swimming into the openings is incredibly exciting and there is a lot of wildlife to watch. You will not swim further in than you can see the opening of the cave, so you do not need to be a trained cave diver.
Vis and Kornati are full of life, more so than most places in the Mediterranean and Croatia
The steep cliffs along Vis are full of life, large shoals of fish are not an uncommon sight. Flatfish, squid, nudibranchs and gorgornia are common and many species of fish circulate around the divers.
In the nature reserve Kornati you will be treated to crystal clear water and beautiful vertical walls with lots of fish and corals. It is considered by many to be the best diving in Croatia.
The diving is focused around the dive sites around the island of Zirije, which offer vertical walls that are full of life and movement. Because of the great visibility, you'd be wise to take an extra look at the depth gauge so you don't go too deep. But thanks to this, you will be treated to an awesome feeling when you soar over the edge of the vertical rocks.
Possibly diving on the wreck "Francesca da Rimini" will be offered. A German freighter that was sunk by two British "spitfires" during the Second World War. Vis and Kornati in Croatia offer perhaps the Mediterranean's best diving in competition with Malta and Gozo

Program, (approximate)
Vis and Kornati safari In Croatia, the area covers from Zadar up to the island of Vis, which is west of Split. The island of Vis is the most famous island for diving in central Dalmatia and it is particularly attractive because of its wrecks and fine visibility in the sea.
First day (Saturday):
Vranjak I starts cruising towards Kukljica on the island of Ugljan. With a stop for swimming and bathing, the ship arrives before noon in this small Dalmatian spot. Kukljica is the home port and the first day is always reserved for checking diving equipment, briefing and provisions for the whole week.
Second day (Sunday):
The liveaboard continues its journey to the south with two dive stops. The first dive site is usually located in the area around the town of Vodice and the second dive site is near Rogoznica. Rogoznica is a small place on the coast where the ship stops overnight. Dive sites that we usually visit in the area of Vodice and Rogoznica are: Kukuljari, north side of the island of Kaprije, Sestrice, Sokol, Smokvica, Tmara, Drvenik, Kablinac, etc. In this area is the wreck Francesca da Rimini, but this dive site is reserved for advanced divers and technical divers.
Francesca da Rimini is also a specially protected cultural heritage and diving can only take place with the support of the local diving club. The price for diving is 20 euros for each dive/per diver.
Third day (Monday):
The journey continues towards Vis and after a 3 hour journey the ship arrives at the island. Usually the ship stays in the Vis area for 2 days (Monday and Tuesday). The night is reserved for the port of Komiža. Dive sites on Vis are usually the wreck Tetti (up to 35 m, good visibility, congers), Vassillios (wreck 25-55 m), fishing wreck Fortunal, wreck Brioni (only for advanced and technical divers) combined with beautiful and deep walls.
On the third day (Monday), the ship stays in Komiža overnight. Vis has a very interesting history. Komiža was a former pirate port and its castle and church of St Nicholas date from 1585. The island was closed to foreign tourism as a result of Marshal Tito's headquarters until 1989. Vis route is very often determined by weather conditions as the island is quite isolated from the mainland.
That is the main reason why all our customers should be aware that the captain has the right to change the route due to the weather conditions. Vis is definitely a place for more experienced divers and it is a specially protected area.
Fourth day (Tuesday):
After 2 dives in the Vis area, the ship stays another night in Komiža or leaves the island of Vis and continues the journey towards the coastline. It is usually determined by the weather conditions predicted for the next day.
Fifth day (Wednesday):
The fifth day is reserved for 2 dive sites on the ship's route to the north and Primošten. Dive sites on the route are usually Orud, Muljica, Planka, Grbavac, Kamičiči, etc. Primošten is a unique tourist destination with many specialties. Some of them are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Sixth day and seventh day (Thursday and Friday):
From Primošten, our journey from Vis continues towards the Kornati National Park in Croatia. On this route we usually dive in the area around the island of Žirije and in the evening Vranjak arrives in the Kornati National Park. In Kornati, we always stay on the island of Levrnaka overnight. On Friday (seventh day) we do two dives in the area around the Kornati National Park. The trip always ends on Friday evening in the port of Sukošan.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
The Vis and Kornati tour is highly dependent on the weather conditions in Croatia. The island of Vis is located on the open sea, so sometimes south wind (jugo) and north-west wind (tramontana) can create high waves and unstable weather. Bad weather of this type is not so common, but if we cannot dive on Vis, the tour can be replaced with the South or Kornati tour.
