Dive with Komandoo Island resort
No visit to the Maldives is complete without visiting the amazing underwater world. Even for those who don't want to dive with equipment but just snorkel, Komandoo is fantastic. Go on an excursion with one of the dive center's boats, so-called dhonis, and meet the various inhabitants of the sea. You can meet everything from large schools of fish to the magical manta rays! Komandoo also has a perfectly good house reef that you can do several dives on and discover different marine species.
Prodivers, the island's local dive center, knows every part of the atoll's dive sites. Lhaviyani Atoll offers over 50 different dive sites. The instructors and guides are very professional and have extensive experience in both training divers and guiding certified divers.
At the dive sites, you glide over or along the reefs where brightly colored parrotfish feed, butterflyfish move in pairs and clownfish hide in their anemones. Reef sharks often patrol the outer edge calmly. Meanwhile, turtles can often surface to take a breath before returning to the blue.
The diving around Komandoo is as varied as it is spectacular. At nearby dive sites you can encounter eagle rays sweeping over the sandy bottoms, large schools of snappers and fusiliers moving like sparkling clouds. Moray eels and smaller species such as blennies and hawkfish peek out from their hiding places. During certain periods, manta rays pass in circles over the cleaning stations they visit daily. For those who are lucky, whale sharks may even appear in the open sea. Octopuses show off their color changes and nudibranchs in countless patterns and colors hide in the nooks and crannies of the coral.
The snorkeling is equally impressive and accessible to all levels. The shallow parts of the house reef are full of life. The clear water makes it easy to follow the movements of the fish over the coral gardens. Sometimes turtles swim by so close that you can almost hear the sound of their fins in the water. Small schools of glass fish sparkle in the sunlight that penetrates the surface.
